Sports Errorless Differentiated Journal Writing for Special Education

Do your students struggle to come up with what to write? These errorless sports journals give every student a way to write, from non-writers to independent writers. I made these with my high school special education class in mind, but they work for early learners of any age.

Included:

• 10 sports journals (enough for 2 full weeks): Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, Football, Tennis Ball, Volleyball, Helmet, Whistle, Sneaker, and Trophy
• A classroom sample for each one with a color picture, title, and 4 sentence starters with 3 errorless choices each
• 3 levels of every journal

Level 1 (Non-Writers):

• Color the picture
• Trace the title
• Cut and paste picture symbols to complete each sentence

Level 2 (Tracers):

• Color the picture and draw their own
• Trace the title and sentence starters (dotted or solid gray)
• Circle or write one of the 3 choices
• A symbol choices page for students who need extra picture support

Level 3 (Writers):

• Draw their own picture
• Copy the sentences from the classroom sample
• Complete each sentence with or without the choices (cover them with a sticky note!)
• 4-line and 5-line versions

Because the journals are errorless, every answer is a right answer. My students loved that because it takes the pressure off writing and they learn to express whatever they think.
