My special education students loved this activity.

Good, but....

I like the questions and activities of this unit, but symbol supports have been proven again and again to work against acquiring reading/decoding skills. I don't know why it's still being used. The Easy-Read versions don't use symbols and are more in line with current educational best-practices.

Symbols do not help students learn to read...however they help in understanding and accessing the curriculum. These resources are created to help students access an alternative curriculum, not learn how to read. I know symbols helped my students engage with the text as it was less intimating than a bunch of words they didn't understand. Hope that helps!

Symbol Supported Reading

As always, Breezy Special Ed knocks it out of the park. These symbol supported reading materials are great. I love the visual supports that help my students be independent.
